As a First Command Financial Advisor, you can enjoy a lifelong career — acquiring and mastering the tools to build a thriving practice, create abundance for your clients and yourself, and leave a legacy for the next generation of Financial Advisors and your family. Click an image below to learn about the stages in a First Command career path.
As a New Advisor (Years 1-2), you’ll begin with a select set of tools to bring immediate value to your clients and forge lasting relationships. Much like an apprentice under a master craftsman, you’ll develop your skills under the mentorship of your District Advisor, using your tools to deliver simple but effective financial solutions to help clients manage risk, reduce debt, and save and invest toward specific financial goals. Having graduated the Essentials of Success Course prior to serving clients, you’ll hone your techniques through the Advanced Success Course during your first year. And you’ll enjoy access to a variety of Home Office resources to support your success.
As an Experienced Advisor (Years 3-5), you’ll acquire additional tools to craft robust financial solutions that enable clients to pursue more and greater financial goals.
You’ll attend the Professional Development Course, designed to equip you with the knowledge to address more complex financial planning issues and the confidence to recommend specific product and service solutions. And thanks to a team of responsive Home Office financial planning and product specialists, you’ll enjoy expert support that’s only a phone call or e-mail away. You’ll never encounter a financial planning situation or product question you can’t handle.
At this stage of your career, you’ll be encouraged to pursue the Certified Financial Planner certification, and First Command will sponsor 50 percent of the fees for your advanced credentialing. You may also pursue a track toward a leadership position in one of our 65 districts across the United States and in Europe, or at the Home Office.
As your reputation as a craftsman grows, so will your client base and your income. You’ll enjoy the opportunity to earn fees for financial planning and advisory services, product commissions, and both annual financial rewards and deferred compensation based on your performance and the company’s.
Because we understand the significant role that recognition plays in career satisfaction, each year you’ll enjoy the opportunity to attend the Annual Advisor Conference, a celebrationof excellence featuring Advisor awards, educational sessions delivered by First Command and our product partners, best practices forums with colleagues, family recreational activities, and much more.
Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. owns the certification marks CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and federally registered CFP (with flame design) in the U.S., which it awards to individuals who successfully complete CFP Board’s initial and ongoing certification requirements.
As a Mature Advisor (Year 5 and beyond), you’ll use your tools as a master craftsman, providing sophisticated financial planning for a select, fewer number of clients. The strong client base you’ve built through hard work will generate predictable, consistent income, and you may continue to earn professional service fees and product commissions plus annual incentive rewards and deferred compensation based on your performance and the company’s.
Reaping the financial rewards of a profitable practice and the personal rewards of positively influencing others’ lives, you may choose to pursue a lifelong career as an independent Financial Advisor, enjoying regular professional development opportunities, adding to your credentials and reputation, and serving clients’ lifetime financial planning needs. Or if you wish to pursue a leadership path, this is the time to explore the many opportunities First Command provides. Advisor trainers, District Advisors, Division directors and First Command corporate executives all are among the many leaders who have been successful First Command Financial Advisors.
As an Established Advisor (At Abundance), you’ll enjoy highly predictable recurring income from loyal clients who recognize the value of relationship-based, comprehensive life-cycle financial planning.
Managing a highly efficient practice, you may serve as a mentor to New Advisors, participating in the nurturing, coaching and accountability that are integral to Advisors’ professional development and that have enabled your own career success. Focusing on your long-standing client relationships, you may transition some clients to the Advisors you mentor, ensuring lifelong continuity of service to those clients while helping Advisors build their practices.
Through your continuing achievement of personal incentives and your contributions to company revenues, you can be rewarded in annual and deferred compensation for the financial performance of First Command; and through personally directed compensation deferrals, you can maximize contributions to your retirement account to provide for your family’s long-term financial well-being.
