From licensing, training and mentoring
to career-long professional development,
we’re committed to you.
To launch and sustain your career, First Command provides a program of training, mentoring and professional development that’s unsurpassed in the industry.
Training begins with the Advisor Orientation Program (AOP), an up to 13-week immersion (depending on your prior experience) in the operations of a successful financial planning practice under the mentorship of your District Advisor. While you train, we’ll support your pursuit of the Series 6 and 63 securities licenses and state insurance licenses, which are required before you can transact business with clients. And we’ll continue to support you as you study for the Series 65 securities license, which you must obtain to provide financial planning and advisory services.
You (and your spouse, if you’re married) will be the company’s guest at VIP — a welcome to the First Command family and an introduction to many of the Home Office departments and resources that support Advisors’ success.
Near the conclusion of your orientation, you’ll attend the Essentials of Success Course (ESC), a week-long intensive program at First Command’s Home Office in Fort Worth, Texas, that focuses on sales training, interpersonal fundamentals and business management.
Throughout your training, you’ll actively build a list of prospective clients. Upon completion of AOP and ESC, and having obtained your initial securities and insurance licenses, you’ll join First Command as an Employee-Advisor and begin meeting with clients and building your practice. Within these first few weeks, you’ll host an event called “My New Career,” designed by First Command’s Advisor Operations, Training and Marketing departments, and supported by your District Advisor, to help you introduce your new career as a Financial Advisor to your greatest supporters and advocates — your family and friends.
Approximately six months into your new career, and having obtained your Series 65 securities license, you’ll return to Fort Worth for the Home Office-based Advanced Success Course. There, you’ll be introduced to new opportunities to grow your business through Tailored Professional Services and Asset Management Solutions, and you’ll receive training in First Command’s robust financial planning software.
As you transition from Employee-Advisor to independent Financial Advisor and progress in your career, you’ll continue to receive attentive personal mentoring from your District Advisor and other field leaders, and you’ll enjoy regular opportunities to expand your knowledge and skills with independent study modules from the Advisor Training Library, by attending the Home Office-based Professional Development Course covering advanced financial planning scenarios, by participating in Annual Advisor Conferences, and through interaction with Home Office financial planning and product experts.
